Drag and Drop Reminder Easter Egg ~ Miss Communication

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

Learn an Outlook Desktop and Gmail hack for creating reminders, contacts and tasks so you don't miss follow ups, meetings and payments.

live and die by my Outlook calendar.  And because the Outlook Desktop App has made it so easy for me to simply drag and drop emails on the calendar icon to create reminders, I never miss a follow up, a meet up, or a pay up.  Check out the video to see how this works. What I love as well is it puts the content of the email in the notes area of the reminder.  If you are like me, there were times I would look at a reminder I created and think what is that in reference to?  Like “Call Katie”, and I’d think Katie who?   Well now all the details about Katie - who she is, why I wanted to follow up with her and even her contact information are all right there in the notes field.  No more hunting up the information.   This drag and drop functionality applies to creating Contacts and Tasks as well! They only drawback is this functionality is only available in the Outlook Desktop App.  For me, it’s worth the download.

Gmail has somewhat similar functionality although it’s not as slick as the drag and drop.   There is something about that action that is magical.  When you have an email open, along the top nav, click the 3 dots and select Create event.   The event will automatically add the people on the email so you’ll need to remove them if you simply want to create a reminder.

I love these kinds of Easter eggs hidden in applications.  They’re fun to discover and create crazy efficiency.

Using this drag and drop or create event feature will go a long way to ensuring you don’t run into me, Miss Communication.
